I don't know if I can explain it but I've always been a visionary. I can look at raw materials and picture how they'd look together. Don't get me wrong, I never fully see the finished product, but I have a basic sense that tells me what will go together.
With fabric, this allows me to designs quilts. Sometimes I'm lead to change a particular pattern, maybe with a few fabrics and colors or by changing the border. Sometimes I start from scratch, creating a one of a kind creation that showcases fabrics and patterns.
With dyeing, I can mix colors creating blends and patterns that are always uniques. I love experimenting and have created several unique dyeing techniques that are especially suited for (surprise) quilting fabric. I experiemented mostly with twenty seven inch squares of birdseye, also known as "flats". Commonly used for cloth diapering, birdseye flats also make really good dish cloths and excellent burp rags. Socks, shirts, aprons, hats, boxers, if it's cotton, I can dye it and I love making plain white articles come alive by making the dye dance across the fabric.
A simple old fashion rag doll has so much character that today's mass produced plastic dolls lack. Dolls that don't do anything such as crying, wetting or walking actually stimulate imangitive play, something children in todays day and age are sorely lacking.
Basically if I can glue it, sew it or dye it then I'll do it.
